Responsibilities

  • Set the technical direction and lead the delivery of a team of junior and mid-career engineers for key aspects of Ubuntu Linux
  • Drive engagements for Silicon and Cloud partners to provide optimal solutions for their platforms
  • Lead the mitigation of common vulnerabilities and exposures and drive active kernel hardening
  • Architect enhancements to performance and correctness for the Ubuntu Linux kernel
  • Streamline the packaging and distribution of third-party components
  • Collaborate with senior technical leadership to ensure Ubuntu remains a top-tier Linux distribution

Requirements

  • Expert understanding of the C programming language
  • Demonstrated expertise working in a *nix-based operating system kernel and distribution
  • Proficiency in Python and Bash scripting
  • Powerful grasp of git version control
  • Experience with software packaging formats (Ubuntu, Debian, or Snap highly regarded)
  • Strong communication skills in English
  • Ability to travel internationally at least twice a year for company events
  • Demonstrated technical equivalent of 15+ years of industry experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong background in RTOS and real-time performance analysis
  • Experience with kernel patching and debugging
  • Strong grasp of device drivers, BSPs, and low-level system engineering
  • Prior experience with Rust, ideally pertaining to the Linux kernel
