Learning Engineer

About the Company

Playlab is a tech non-profit dedicated to helping educators and students become critical consumers and creators of AI. We equip communities with AI tools and hands-on professional development that empowers educators and students to build custom AI apps for their unique context.

Responsibilities

• Support 2 to 3 Lab Schools through a 24-month partnership, including monthly leader check-ins and weekly build sessions.
• Partner with the Senior Learning Engineer to deliver consistent technical support and phase-by-phase programming.
• Build bespoke AI tools alongside teachers, such as custom assessment tools, lesson planners, and student-facing builders.
• Contribute to an open-source playbook by documenting builds and capturing patterns from assigned schools.
• Run coaching sessions through office hours, async support, and 1:1 video coaching.
• Co-facilitate quarterly three-day convenings.
• Bring field insights back to product, engineering, and research teams to shape platform features.

Requirements

• 3+ years of classroom, instructional coaching, or school-based experience.
• Proven track record of shipping AI tools.
• Proficiency with prompting and AI app design.
• Strong documentation skills for build logs and walkthroughs.
• Ability to work effectively in an async, remote-first environment.
• Commitment to the full 24-month cohort cadence, including quarterly in-person convenings.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting instructional technology or professional development across multiple schools.
• Familiarity with knowledge-graph-grounded AI tools or agentic design patterns.
• Experience supporting both student- and adult-facing AI initiatives.
• Connections to school-design organizations or AI-in-education nonprofits.
