Job description

Responsibilities

  • Answer calls professionally and adhere to the Interpreter's code of conduct
  • Take accurate notes during calls and render all messages completely without adding, omitting, or substituting
  • Apply specialized healthcare and medical terminology during interpretation sessions
  • Facilitate communication between Limited English Proficient clients and healthcare providers
  • Maintain highest standards of accuracy and customer service during OPI/VRI sessions
  • Comply with dress code requirements for video remote interpreting
  • Participate in internal professional training and pursue additional certifications
  • Report to team leaders and maintain transparent communication

Requirements

  • Native fluency in Lingala or Swahili with fluent English proficiency
  • 1+ years of OPI/VRI experience with a recognized interpretation company
  • Solid knowledge of medical terminology; legal terminology knowledge is a plus
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • High emotional intelligence and cultural tolerance
  • Strong communication, listening, note-taking, and memory retention skills
  • Healthcare industry certifications (PICSI, ALTA, HIPAA, etc.) preferred

Preferred Qualifications

  • Wired internet connection with minimum 10 Mbps download / 3 Mbps upload (Wi-Fi not permitted)
  • Windows 10 or higher, dual-core 2 GHz processor (Intel Core i3 or better), 8GB RAM minimum
  • Wired noise-cancelling headset with built-in microphone (no Bluetooth or wireless)
  • Single computer or laptop operating in High Performance mode with power adapter plugged in
