Responsibilities
- Collaborate proactively within a globally distributed team to maintain and optimize Ubuntu for next-generation silicon
- Evaluate engineering contributions to uphold high-quality software standards across the Linux stack
- Debug issues in open source and team-maintained code, and advise on work across the Ubuntu ecosystem
- Help customers integrate applications, SDKs, and OS images on Ubuntu Core, Desktop, and Server
- Support silicon-optimized packages across servers, HPC, AI systems, IoT, PCs, SmartNICs, and automotive platforms
- Work on AI stacks, graphics/audio/multimedia, virtualization, containers, hardware enablement, new architectures, and platform security
- Work from home with 2–4 weeks of global travel yearly for internal events
Requirements
- Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
- Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling alternative narrative
- Strong fundamentals in C, C++, and Python
- Experience or interest in Linux distribution packaging and open source maintenance or contribution
- Fundamental understanding of package management and dependency resolution
- Curious, flexible, articulate, accountable, and passionate about technology
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with graphics, audio, or multimedia stacks
- Experience with virtualization and containers (Docker, OCI, Kubernetes)
- Hardware enablement for platforms and devices (SmartNICs, NVMe, GPUs, audio, sensors)
- Performance optimization and toolchain development
- Networking protocols and technologies (TCP/IP, DHCP, HTTP/REST)
- Security best practices and IoT/embedded systems (SoCs, BMCs, bootloaders, firmware)
