Job description
Responsibilities
- Develop, deploy, and support new and existing mainframe-based applications throughout the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Coordinate with clients and IT personnel to analyze system requests and develop specifications for new projects or maintenance.
- Prepare unit and integration test plans and perform testing in cooperation with stakeholders.
- Conduct thorough problem analysis regarding technical systems and application programs, documenting findings and proposing resolutions.
- Serve as a Project Lead for smaller projects and act as a mentor for less experienced engineers.
- Prepare user and operational documentation for all programming work performed.
- Participate in on-call responsibilities to support production as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 8+ years of experience in mainframe system development and support.
- Proficient and recent Assembler coding experience.
- Mastery of COBOL, Assembler, Easytrieve, JCL, CICS, VSAM, VSE/DOS, and IBM z/OS.
- Proficiency with ISPF, TSO, Debuggers, and RMF (Resource Measurement Facility).
- Strong working knowledge of SDLC methodologies such as Waterfall, Agile, or Test-Driven Development.
- Strong technical, analytical, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the insurance industry (life, health, and annuity).
- Knowledge of Equimatics IssueComm/LifeComm.
- Experience with DevOps and CI/CD on the mainframe, Cloud Integration, Java, or Python.
- Familiarity with data tools such as SyncSort and BIM.
- Experience working with SQL and file formats like .TXT and .XLS.
