Manager of Underwriting

Responsibilities

• Lead and support a team responsible for producing accurate, timely, and high-quality underwriting decisions
• Partner with People Ops to source, screen, interview, and onboard new hires
• Oversee performance management, including reviews, feedback, and coaching plans
• Cultivate a positive team culture and manage employee engagement initiatives
• Lead team-related projects by scoping, creating timelines, and delegating tasks
• Manage pipeline and workload to ensure high performance across the team
• Own the development, implementation, and updates of policies and procedures
• Connect company-wide goals with department-level action items
• Analyze area-specific data to produce insights for leadership
• Act as the main point of contact for escalations and team questions
• Manage and coach to underwriting quality KPIs using performance data
• Serve as the primary cross-functional liaison between Underwriting and Processing

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in underwriting residential loans
• Experience leading a high-performing team
• Proven history of managing projects from ideation to execution
• Ability to write effective policies and procedures
• Ability to evaluate risk-based decisions and maintain consistent quality standards
• Experience navigating cross-functional team dynamics
• Demonstrated leadership and communication skills
• Ability to make data-driven decisions
• Adaptability to fast-paced startup environments
