Medical Coder

Responsibilities

• Review medical records for inpatient and outpatient services to identify principal and secondary diagnoses
• Translate diagnostic and procedural phrases into coded form using standard guidelines
• Assign appropriate DRG and determine sequencing to maximize reimbursement
• Query physicians to clarify documentation for accurate coding
• Assist in training new coding staff on guidelines and software systems
• Update and correct historical file data via claim action reports

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of relevant coding experience
• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
• One relevant certification from AHIMA (e.g., CCS, CCS-P, RHIT, RHIA, CCA) or AAPC
• Ability to work from home in Pennsylvania
