Job description

Responsibilities

  • Lead safe, efficient plant operations across continuous and batch processes, utilities, and supporting units
  • Drive process optimisation, debottlenecking, yield improvement, energy efficiency, and cost reduction programmes
  • Support or lead capital projects from scope definition through execution, commissioning, and handover
  • Maintain technical and operational documentation (P&IDs, procedures, operating envelopes) and oversee management of change (MOC)
  • Improve asset reliability through preventive/predictive maintenance strategies, RCA, turnaround planning, and integrity programmes
  • Ensure compliance with site HSE standards, process safety controls, and contractor safety requirements
  • Lead and participate in risk assessments (HAZOP/LOPA), incident investigations, and corrective action closure
  • Manage contractors and safe systems of work (Permit-to-Work, isolations/LOTO, method statements and risk assessments)
  • Track and improve KPIs across safety, production, quality, reliability, and budget performance
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Laboratory, Supply Chain, and external vendors to deliver operational targets
  • Support internal and external audits; maintain readiness for inspections and strengthen continuous improvement practices
  • Coach and develop teams through training, competency development, and performance management support

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical/Instrumentation Engineering, Chemistry, or related discipline
  • Typically 7–15+ years experience in petrochemicals, refining, speciality chemicals, polymers, industrial gases, or similar process manufacturing
  • Experience in one or more functional tracks: operations leadership, process engineering, reliability/maintenance, rotating equipment, HSE/process safety, projects, quality, or commercial/technical support
  • Working knowledge of industrial safety and process safety expectations in high-hazard environments (HSE management systems, Permit-to-Work, isolations/LOTO, contractor management)
  • Familiarity with common plant systems and tools such as CMMS/EAM (e.g., SAP/Maximo) and process historians (e.g., PI System)
  • Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills; ability to work across multicultural teams
  • Willingness to work onsite in industrial environments; some roles may require shift coverage, on-call rotation, or travel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional safety/process safety certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) or technical certifications (API, PMI, ISO)
  • Experience with SAP/Maximo or other EAM implementations and asset management programmes
  • Proven record of delivering capital projects and turnaround planning
  • Prior experience in UAE or GCC regulatory and HSE frameworks
