Principal Software Engineer

Multitude Insights builds modern tools for public safety agencies. Our flagship product, BLTN, is a real-time, AI-powered bulletin sharing platform that replaces legacy email workflows for police departments, turning static documents into actionable intelligence.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build end-to-end backend systems and scalable production-grade services and APIs
• Define and enforce engineering best practices, coding standards, and architectural patterns
• Lead and mentor engineers through code reviews and technical guidance
• Drive infrastructure evolution for reliability, performance, scalability, observability, and security
• Partner with product, design, and executive leadership to translate business objectives into technical strategy

Requirements

• 10+ years of backend development experience in senior, staff, or principal roles
• Deep expertise in backend systems design and distributed systems
• Proficiency in Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, and OpenSearch
• Experience designing backend APIs for SaaS products (multi-tenancy, authentication, versioning)
• Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with security, fault tolerance, and observability
• Experience setting technical direction at an organizational level
• Strong communication skills for explaining technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in startup or mission-critical environments
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and cloud infrastructure such as AWS
