Job description

Responsibilities

  • Research mesh networking for Denied, Disconnected, Intermittent, and Limited-bandwidth (D-DIL) environments
  • Analyze LoRaWAN, Meshtastic, Thread, and military tactical data link design principles
  • Draft notional message formats optimized for constrained RF links
  • Evaluate cluster formation strategies using entropy-based weighting, RSSI, and residual energy trade-offs
  • Assess lightweight cryptography for low-power MCUs
  • Contribute to the final technical report and follow-on proposal roadmap

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Master's or late-stage BS/BA in computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field
  • Coursework or project experience in at least two of: wireless communications, embedded systems, networking protocols, or applied cryptography
  • Comfortable with C/C++ and/or Python for embedded and simulation work
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Self-directed with ability to meet weekly milestones remotely
  • U.S. citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with LoRa, LoRaWAN, Meshtastic, Thread, BLE, or Zigbee
  • Bench prototyping with Semtech SX126x/SX127x, ESP32, STM32, or Nordic SoCs
  • Familiarity with mesh routing, TDMA, or SDR experimentation
  • Exposure to ns-3, OMNeT++, or similar network simulators
  • Interest in defense applications, edge AI, or tactical networking
