React Native Lead Developer (Unpaid/Early-Stage Startup)

Responsibilities

• Own the mobile codebase (React Native) across Android and iOS
• Drive bug fixing, performance improvements, and UX polish before launch
• Lead Android development using React Native, Android Studio, TypeScript/JavaScript
• Prepare, test, and stabilize the iOS build using Xcode
• Define and enforce testing strategy (Jest, Detox)
• Review PRs, guide architecture decisions, and keep code quality high
• Manage technical tasks and priorities in Jira
• Support deployments with Fastlane, App Store Connect, Google Play Console
• Ensure secure coding practices (OAuth, SSL/TLS, encryption, safe data handling)
• Collaborate closely with the founder on roadmap, trade-offs, and release decisions

Requirements

• Strong React Native expertise with experience shipping and maintaining production apps
• Deep understanding of both iOS and Android build environments
• Proven ability to lead technical decisions, not just execute tickets
• Experience setting up and maintaining test coverage (Jest, Detox, or similar)
• Comfortable leading code reviews, refactors, and architectural improvements
• Solid knowledge of authentication and security best practices

Preferred Qualifications

• Mentoring or guiding junior developers
• Prior ownership of mobile app launches
• Experience scaling apps post-launch
