Senior AI Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design and ship AI agent systems end to end, from early experiments through to production
• Own the data access layer, retrieval strategy, and integration with existing infrastructure
• Build and own the evaluation framework from scratch, including golden datasets and regression harnesses
• Set the technical direction for AI at Kota, making key architectural decisions regarding agent design
• Collaborate with the AI Product Lead and Platform team to surface new AI opportunities and raise engineering standards

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience
• 2+ years of experience working directly on LLM or AI agent systems in production
• Strong grasp of agent architecture, including context management, tool use, and retrieval strategies
• Proven experience building evaluation frameworks and performing failure analysis
• Full-stack comfort and ability to work across the technical stack
• Clear written communication skills for explaining technical decisions to stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in fintech, payroll, HR tech, or benefits
• Experience with AWS, .NET, Azure, or the Microsoft ecosystem
• Experience generating synthetic evaluation data to bootstrap coverage
• Experience working in early-stage or scale-up environments
