Senior Backend Engineer (Laravel)

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable backend services in Laravel, from initial architecture through to production
• Develop core platform capabilities including data modelling, APIs, and background processing
• Design secure, well-documented, and versioned REST APIs
• Build event-driven and asynchronous systems using queues and background jobs
• Optimize database performance, caching strategies, and application scalability
• Integrate third-party services, including commerce, logistics, and AI/LLM APIs
• Review code and mentor developers to maintain high engineering standards

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional backend development experience
• 3+ years of strong, production-level Laravel experience
• Deep understanding of OOP, SOLID principles, design patterns, and system design
• Proficiency with MySQL (indexing and query optimization), Redis, and queue-based systems
• Experience with AWS (EC2, RDS, S3, IAM), Docker, and CI/CD pipelines
• Strong data modelling skills and the ability to reason about architectural trade-offs
• A commitment to testing and building reliable, automated systems

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a regulated domain such as healthcare or fintech
• Experience with multi-tenant SaaS architectures
• Hands-on experience with LLM integration (Anthropic or OpenAI APIs)
• Experience with Shopify APIs and event-driven architecture in production
