Senior Backend Engineer

About the Company

Nametag helps companies verify the real person behind high-risk workforce actions, from account recovery to identity checks, before attackers can exploit the gap. We are building the identity verification and account protection layer companies use to answer the question of identity quickly, securely, and with less friction.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate backend services and APIs for identity verification and account protection
• Own database schema design, migrations, query performance, and data integrity
• Build and harden authentication, authorization, and data-protection systems
• Design for correctness under load, including idempotency and failure handling
• Partner with product and design to ship secure, usable customer-facing workflows
• Debug complex production issues across services, data, and infrastructure
• Review code, mentor peers, and improve reliability and observability

Requirements

• 5+ years building and operating production backend systems
• Strong experience with Node.js, Go, Python, Java, or similar
• Experience designing APIs and services for high-scale systems
• Strong relational database experience, preferably PostgreSQL
• Hands-on cloud experience, preferably AWS
• Familiarity with authentication, authorization, identity, or security
• Ability to work across the stack with modern frontend frameworks like React or Vue
• Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with identity, fraud prevention, fintech, or compliance-heavy products
• Experience with OAuth, SAML, SSO, JWTs, or access control
• Experience in early-stage or high-ownership engineering environments
• Strong production incident and observability experience
