Senior Backend Engineer

Praktika is an AI-native education company on a mission to deliver efficient, engaging language learning to billions of people worldwide. We're bridging the gap between traditional learning apps and human tutors through a fully automated tutorship experience powered by generative AI avatars.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, integrate, validate and operate new projects, features, and bug fixes
• Architect and implement backend solutions using Python, FastAPI, and various databases and message brokers
• Work with Mobile, Web, Data, and Product teams to integrate new solutions
• Develop well-architected, clean, maintainable, and testable code following clean architecture principles
• Write unit, integration, and e2e tests to ensure reliability and support CI/CD
• Utilize Terraform, Docker, and AWS (ECS/EKS) for infrastructure and deployment
• Work closely with AI experts to build data-driven approaches to language learning

Requirements

• 8+ years of backend development experience with strong Python expertise
• Proven track record of leading B2C / Consumer-facing projects
• Experience with ASGI frameworks such as FastAPI or Starlette
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL and MongoDB
• Experience with microservices and event-driven architectures
• Familiarity with Docker and containerized environments
• Excellent written and spoken English
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced startup

Preferred Qualifications

• AWS infrastructure and DevOps experience
• Experience with SQLAlchemy or other ORM technologies
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or Engineering
• Genuine passion for education technology and AI
