Senior Backend Engineer

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of major team-scoped projects and participate in cross-team initiatives for HR and Payroll products
• Design, propose, and operationalize end-to-end agentic workflows (spec → plan → execute → verify)
• Redesign engineering workflows to use autonomous agents as the default execution layer
• Build reusable agentic primitives and workflows within the codebase
• Provide technical leadership through code reviews, mentoring, and RFC discussions
• Maintain deep domain expertise to suggest product improvements and technical solutions
• Debug and solve complex technical and business issues within a distributed environment

Requirements

• Proven track record of shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems
• Practical experience designing or adopting agentic/automation workflows
• Strong systems thinking skills: ability to define specs, break down plans, and instrument verification
• Proficiency with Postgres or similar relational databases
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab, GitHub, Jenkins)
• High level of AI fluency and strong automation capabilities

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with functional programming languages such as Elixir, Erlang, Scala, Clojure, or Haskell
• Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Familiarity with AWS cloud infrastructure
• Experience with modern frontend frameworks like React, Next.js, Vue, or Angular
