Senior Backend Engineer

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of major team-scoped projects and participate in cross-team initiatives for HR and Payroll products
• Design, propose, and operationalize end-to-end agentic workflows (spec → plan → execute → verify)
• Redesign engineering workflows to use autonomous agents as the default execution layer
• Build reusable agentic primitives and workflows within the codebase
• Provide technical leadership through code reviews, mentoring, and RFC discussions
• Maintain high standards for API design, performance, and system reliability
• Debug and solve complex technical and business issues within a distributed system

Requirements

• Strong engineering fundamentals with a track record of shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems
• Practical experience designing or adopting agentic/automation workflows
• High level of AI fluency and strong automation capabilities
• Proficiency with Postgres or similar relational databases
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab, GitHub, Jenkins)
• Ability to think in systems: defining specs, breaking down plans, and implementing verification loops

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with functional programming languages such as Elixir or Erlang
• Experience with Phoenix framework
• Knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, and AWS
• Familiarity with modern frontend technologies like React, Next.js, or Vue
