Senior Backend Engineer

Rightangled is a digital healthcare company building the platform that powers clinical and pharmacy operations.

Responsibilities

• Designing and building backend services in Laravel from architecture through to production
• Working on core platform capabilities including data modelling, APIs, and background processing
• Designing secure, well-documented, and versioned REST APIs
• Building event-driven and asynchronous systems with queues and background jobs
• Optimising database performance and application scalability
• Writing automated tests and improving engineering and release practices
• Integrating third-party services including commerce, logistics, and AI/LLM APIs
• Reviewing code and helping raise the overall standard of the team

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional backend development
• At least 3 years of strong Laravel experience in production systems
• Deep understanding of OOP, SOLID principles, design patterns, and system design
• Experience with Shopify APIs, Eloquent ORM, MySQL performance tuning, Redis, and AWS infrastructure
• Proficiency with Docker, Linux, Git, CI/CD, and application monitoring
• Strong testing habits and commitment to reliability
• Working knowledge of AWS (EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, CloudWatch)
• Clear written communication skills for documenting and defending design decisions

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a regulated domain such as healthcare or fintech
• Multi-tenant SaaS experience
• LLM integration work with Anthropic or OpenAI APIs
• Experience with event-driven architecture in production
