Senior Backend Software Engineer

Responsibilities

• Own and lead backend initiatives end-to-end, including technical design, delivery, and rollout.
• Architect, build, and maintain backend services and REST APIs using Laravel and PHP.
• Drive system performance and production reliability through monitoring and incident response.
• Embed security into the development lifecycle with secure coding practices and encryption.
• Design and evolve data models and manage migrations for MySQL and other database technologies.
• Establish engineering standards for code quality, testing strategy, and API conventions.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, pairing, and architectural guidance.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to translate product requirements into scalable technical solutions.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building production backend systems.
• 3+ years of professional experience with PHP and Laravel.
• Proven experience designing scalable backend architectures.
• Strong relational database expertise (PostgreSQL/MySQL) including schema design and performance tuning.
• Strong API design experience covering versioning, authentication, and rate limiting.
• Strong testing mindset using frameworks like PHPUnit or Pest.
• Experience with production operations, including debugging and monitoring.
• Excellent communication skills for leading technical discussions in a remote environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps.
• Knowledge of caching, queues, and async processing (Redis, Horizon).
• Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
• Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards like HL7 or FHIR.
