Senior Engineer - Trust and Safety

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain new features for the VRChat platform and operational teams.
• Enhance safety systems by building UI/UX and backend systems for support, moderation, and safety operations.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to translate vision into functional code.
• Contribute to the full feature lifecycle, from prototyping to deployment and post-launch maintenance.
• Ensure the stability, reliability, and performance of critical moderation services, including participating in on-call rotations.
• Participate in code reviews to maintain high standards for code quality and architectural integrity.

Requirements

• 2-5+ years of professional experience developing and maintaining web applications.
• Proficiency in the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express, React, Node.js) and technologies like Redis.
• Experience building scalable, RESTful APIs.
• Experience building responsive web front ends using React and CSS.
• Experience with database design, optimization, state management, and third-party integrations.
• Familiarity with version control systems and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong communication skills and an agile, collaborative mindset for a remote environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Understanding of game client/server architecture and data flow (Unity/C# is a plus).
• Experience working directly with moderation or Trust and Safety teams.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Demonstrated interest in online communities, VR, or the VRChat platform.
