About the Company

Playlab is a tech non-profit dedicated to helping educators and students become critical consumers and creators of AI. We believe that an open-source, community-driven approach is key to harnessing the potential of AI in education.

Responsibilities

  • Identify high leverage opportunities for creating AI apps that enhance math teaching and learning
  • Build bespoke math apps on Playlab including problem generators, scaffolding tools, and error analysis flows
  • Co-design with math educators through hands-on coaching, design sprints, and 1:1 build time
  • Set the bar for math AI tools across the platform by defining quality standards and reviewing educator builds
  • Mentor other Learning Engineers on math-adjacent work and pedagogical questions
  • Run high-trust coaching through drop-in sessions and async build support
  • Push the boundaries of math apps using advanced prompting and agentic problem decomposition
  • Bring field insights back to product, engineering, and research teams

Requirements

  • 5+ years of K-12 math classroom or instructional leadership experience
  • Deep understanding of math teaching and learning
  • Experience using, interrogating, and creating AI tools
  • Experience mentoring or coaching math educators or instructional coaches
  • Commitment to equity and access for underserved students
  • Willingness to travel to partner sites for in-person build days and design sprints

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in math curriculum design, assessment design, or learning science
  • Experience with structured math knowledge sources, proof systems, or computer algebra integrations
  • Familiarity with major math curricula like Illustrative Math or Eureka
  • Bilingual skills (especially Spanish/English)
  • Existing network across math-focused districts or nonprofits
