Senior Learning Engineer

Playlab is a tech non-profit dedicated to helping educators and students become critical consumers and creators of AI. We believe that an open-source, community-driven approach is key to harnessing the potential of AI in education.

Responsibilities

• Anchor 4 to 5 Lab Schools through a 24-month partnership, providing coaching and weekly build sessions
• Build bespoke AI tools alongside teachers, including assessment tools and lesson planners
• Mentor embedded regional Learning Engineers to sharpen their craft
• Define quality standards for lab school builds and ensure tools are open-source ready
• Co-facilitate quarterly three-day convenings
• Contribute to cross-team product, research, and partnership initiatives as needed
• Bring field insights back to product and engineering teams to shape platform features

Requirements

• 5+ years of classroom, instructional leadership, or school leadership experience
• Proven track record of shipping AI tools using advanced patterns like agentic design or knowledge grounding
• Experience mentoring or coaching educators
• Strong proficiency in prompting and AI app design
• Excellent documentation and curation skills
• Ability to commit to a 24-month cohort cadence including quarterly in-person convenings
• Strong remote-first and asynchronous communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience leading large-scale instructional technology or professional development initiatives
• Familiarity with knowledge-graph-grounded AI tools
• Experience supporting both student- and adult-facing AI initiatives
• Existing network within school-design organizations or AI-in-education nonprofits
