Senior Python Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design and build the AI foundation of Home Assistant including conversation APIs and LLM integrations
• Create in-product agents that help people manage their homes using AI
• Connect Home Assistant to the agentic world through open standards like MCP
• Grow Assist from home control into context-aware home management
• Build AI-powered workflows for issue triage and contributor tooling
• Conduct code reviews and collaborate with the open-source community

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in Python back-end development
• 3+ years of experience with asyncio and threading
• Proven experience shipping LLM-powered features in production Python
• Experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP) or comparable tool-calling interfaces
• Experience with local, on-device inference (e.g., Ollama, llama.cpp)
• Professional fluency in English and residency in Europe

Preferred Qualifications

• Passion for smart homes and automation
• Experience as a Home Assistant user or contributor
• Experience building agentic developer tooling
