Senior Python Integration Engineer

Responsibilities

• Own integrations and software support for Nabu Casa products across Home Assistant and ESPHome ecosystems
• Build and maintain Python integrations, proxy libraries, and software components
• Write Python software that interfaces with device protocols and hardware peripherals
• Collaborate with Embedded Linux OS and Hardware teams to translate hardware capabilities into software
• Contribute to Home Assistant core and ESPHome projects
• Review community pull requests and provide constructive feedback
• Investigate and resolve software issues, protocol edge cases, and communication failures
• Maintain unit, integration, and hardware-in-the-loop test coverage

Requirements

• Strong Python development experience (async/await, testing frameworks, type annotations)
• Meaningful experience contributing to large open-source projects
• Experience building integrations, APIs, or automation systems for connected devices
• Understanding of device protocols and hardware interaction concepts
• Familiarity with protocols such as Bluetooth, Zigbee, USB, UART, mDNS, SPI, I2C, or MQTT
• Ability to navigate large, complex codebases
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting mindset

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous contributions to Home Assistant or ESPHome
• Experience building software for IoT or smart home products
• Familiarity with Raspberry Pi or embedded Linux
• Experience working in fully remote and async-first engineering teams
