Senior Software Engineer

Responsibilities

• Work with a globally distributed team focused on distributed indexing and query capabilities of Lucene
• Act as an expert in the engine area to improve core components
• Contribute to Lucenia by building data-intensive features, fixing bugs, and increasing testing coverage
• Invent or implement new algorithms and data structures
• Work closely with the operating system and hardware
• Collaborate with global community members on issues and pull requests
• Write idiomatic modern Java and potentially Rust

Requirements

• Strong core Java skills with knowledge of standard library data structures and concurrency
• Excellent understanding of concurrent and parallel programming principles
• Proven background in applied data processing, algorithms, and data structures
• Familiarity with low-level OS abstractions
• Ability to work autonomously and guide projects from technical design to completion
• Solid software engineering foundations with a track record of high-quality delivery
• Experience with data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for remote collaboration

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building with Lucene
• Experience with index and search data structure technology
• Experience designing and leading cross-functional initiatives
• Experience with open source projects and CI/CD workflows
• Past experience in database, search engine, OS, or cloud service development
