About the Company

Scribd is a digital library service with 200 million monthly visitors and more than 2 million active subscribers. The Identity team focuses on building sophisticated, reliable, and secure authentication solutions that protect user credentials while providing a frictionless experience.

Responsibilities

  • Build self-service flows to reduce Customer Support load, such as account recovery and cancellation.
  • Enhance identity-related functionality including authentication, session management, and user data protection.
  • Improve login and account creation processes using technologies like passwordless, magic links, passkeys, and MFA.
  • Integrate and optimize risk-based fraud detection and security measures.
  • Design and implement user data retention and deletion workflows in compliance with regulations like GDPR.
  • Write clear technical documentation and collaborate with product, security, and legal teams.
  • Participate in the Identity squad 24/7 on-call rotation.

Requirements

  • 4–6 years of professional software development experience.
  • Proficiency in Ruby on Rails.
  • Experience with JavaScript/React.
  • Strong API integration skills with a focus on authentication.
  • Experience with relational databases at scale and proficiency with SQL.
  • Experience with complex backend systems (MFA, email verification, fraud detection).
  • Familiarity with Git.
  • AI Fluency: Ability to use AI tools to accelerate development while maintaining full accountability for code.
  • Ability to provide timezone overlap with EST (09:00–13:00 EST).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of security fundamentals and best practices for sensitive data.
  • Experience with Customer Support tools like Zendesk or Forethought.
  • Familiarity with CIAM, SSO, SAML, MFA, and federation concepts.
