Job description

Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of medium complexity initiatives from technical discovery through delivery
  • Implement frontend mobile Wikipedia product experiences using accessible and scalable components
  • Create and maintain RESTful APIs and scalable data pipelines
  • Build and improve systems that are easy to test, observe, and debug
  • Partner with product managers, designers, and native app engineers to shape solutions
  • Mentor engineers through code reviews, technical design, and pairing
  • Raise team standards in testing, documentation, and accessibility

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of professional experience building production web applications
  • Strong experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and frameworks like Vue.js or React
  • Proficiency in a backend language such as PHP, Python, Java, or Go
  • Experience building responsive or mobile-first web experiences
  • Experience designing and integrating with server-side APIs
  • Experience working in a self-driven, lean environment
  • Ability to work at least four hours per day between 14:00 UTC and 21:00 UTC

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience adding webview-wrapped experiences to native mobile apps
  • Experience launching and maintaining native or cross-platform mobile applications
  • Experience building mobile games or interactive mobile experiences
  • Experience with data science, machine learning, or AI
  • Familiarity with MediaWiki, wikitext, or other content management systems
  • History of open source contributions
  • Experience working in a fully remote, distributed team
