Senior Software Engineer, Windows/Desktop Applications

Over 50 million people use Speechify’s text-to-speech products to turn whatever they’re reading – PDFs, books, Google Docs, news articles, websites – into audio. Speechify operates in a 100% distributed setting with no physical office.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++
• Define and enforce best practices for Windows desktop development including performance, memory usage, and cross-version compatibility
• Drive accessibility efforts by integrating support for Microsoft UI Automation and ensuring usability for users with disabilities
• Collaborate with product designers, UX researchers, and QA to shape the Windows platform roadmap
• Take ownership of the full feature lifecycle from conception to maintenance
• Identify and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, and memory leaks

Requirements

• 3+ years in Windows desktop application development
• Proficiency with Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, and XAML
• Experience with native Windows code such as C++, Win32, WinRT, or COM
• Deep understanding of Windows application architecture and .NET/native interop
• Proven track record of shipping production-quality desktop applications
• Strong experience with Windows accessibility APIs
• Excellent software engineering fundamentals including OOP, design patterns, and multi-threading
• Experience leading technical design and mentoring engineers

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience writing automated UI, unit, and integration tests
• Expertise in desktop performance optimization (startup time, rendering, high-DPI)
• Experience with localization, globalization, and right-to-left UI support
• Familiarity with telemetry, analytics, and crash reporting
• Experience shaping CI/CD workflows and deployment strategies for desktop apps
