Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Lead the content design strategy for Gusto's Pay Group, focusing on creating seamless, transparent, and human-centered payroll experiences within an AI-enhanced environment.
  • Craft and ship high-quality customer-facing UI content, including microcopy, error messages, onboarding flows, and educational materials that guide users through complex payroll and compliance tasks.
  • Develop and evolve comprehensive language systems, tone guidelines, and content frameworks that ensure consistent brand voice and user experience across all Pay Group products and AI interactions.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners, including Product Designers, Product Managers, Engineers, AI Researchers, and Legal/Compliance teams, to define UX direction and ensure content is deeply integrated into product strategy and development.
  • Partner with platform teams to leverage and advance the use of AI in content design, exploring how AI can enhance content creation, personalization, and user support within the Pay Group.
  • Conduct user research, usability testing, and content audits to gather insights, identify pain points, and iteratively improve the quality and effectiveness of content across the Pay Group's product suite.
  • Mentor and support other designers and cross-functional team members in developing their content design skills and understanding of best practices for AI-driven user experiences.
  • Proactively identify and prioritize content design initiatives that will have the most significant impact on user experience, operational efficiency, and business goals within the Pay Group.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in English, Communications, HCI, Design, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in content design, UX writing, or a closely related field, with a proven track record of shipping customer-facing products.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading content strategy for complex product areas, preferably within FinTech, HR Tech, or SaaS platforms.
  • Experience working with AI-driven features, natural language processing (NLP), or generative AI is highly desirable.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with building and evolving content systems, design systems, or style guides.
  • Familiarity with evaluative research methodologies and experience integrating research findings into content design decisions.
  • Experience in the payroll, HR, or small business software domain.
  • Knowledge of compliance and regulatory requirements relevant to financial services or HR.
  • Experience mentoring junior designers or leading content initiatives within a larger team.
