Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Guide project outcomes, manage teams and resources, contribute to proposals, and support client engagement across diverse project types (regional master plans, mixed-use developments, resorts, entertainment districts, residential communities).
  • Independently manage, coordinate, and lead smaller projects with less oversight, including client meetings and report ownership.
  • Coordinate teams to prepare project deliverables per planning authority requirements, working collaboratively across technical disciplines.
  • Work with client planning teams to negotiate and manage project expectations and deliverables, handling complex scenarios with support as needed.
  • Initiate and advance innovative approaches to project delivery, such as improved site analysis, site planning, due diligence, and high-level developer assessment.
  • Analyze and assess data and establish criteria for evaluating master plans, including baseline assessments and implementation/phasing planning.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of planning/environmental governance and policy, making client recommendations as appropriate.
  • Prepare and review datasets to align population projections with market demands and supply.
  • Independently prepare small-scale proposal methodologies and manage internal processes for approvals.
  • Lead specialty initiatives in urban planning (wellness planning, placemaking, etc.).
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, tools, and methods.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to graduate planners.

Requirements

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience with various urban planning projects
  • Experience in planning, development, and design at multiple scales
  • Ability to deliver multidisciplinary projects on time and within budget
  • Strong analytical skills; ability to develop practical solutions
  • Proficiency in writing, refining, and delivering final reports
  • Ability to work both independently and within multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong oral, graphic, and written communication
  • Familiarity with Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator), ArcGIS, and PowerPoint (advantageous)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in planning & design, environment, urban policy, sustainable development, or equivalent
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Professional membership such as RTPI, AICP, PIA, CIP, SIP, or equivalent (preferred)
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in planning and/or environmental planning, ideally with both private sector and some government exposure
  • Technical skills in environmental planning and sustainability
  • Positive, proactive, and flexible professional attitude
  • Self-starter and a team player
