Software Engineer - Backend

About the Company

Vesta is rebuilding the mortgage LOS from the ground up. Founded by former Blend employees, the company is creating an AI-augmented platform to transform the mortgage lending process into a fully automated experience. Vesta has raised $55M from top-tier investors including Andreessen Horowitz and Bain Capital Ventures.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate backend systems that support customer-facing features
• Take ownership of backend and systems aspects of product features from design through production
• Ensure product functionality is scalable and reliable as usage grows
• Optimize performance, reliability, and scalability (e.g., query optimization, indexing, resolving bottlenecks)
• Collaborate closely with full-stack engineers and product teammates

Requirements

• Proficiency in a strongly typed backend language (C#, Java, Kotlin, Go, or similar)
• Hands-on experience with relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL, including schema design and performance tuning
• Experience building and operating production-grade distributed systems at scale
• Experience with multi-service architectures in a production environment
• Familiarity with cloud-based production environments (AWS preferred)
• Experience with infrastructure components such as Kafka or Redis
• Strong systems design instincts regarding scalability and reliability tradeoffs
• Ability to work autonomously in an early-stage startup environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Full-stack experience
• Fluency in using modern AI tooling in development workflows
