Software Engineer III

Responsibilities

• Support delivery of initiatives by breaking down complex features into tasks and resolving blockers
• Build moderately complex features and components with minimal support
• Take ownership of bug fixes and production problems
• Design features with observability and testing as core considerations
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners and facilitate team ceremonies
• Contribute to planning, scoping work, and identifying risks across sprints
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and technical planning
• Contribute to onboarding, documentation, and hiring efforts

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree plus at least 2 years of professional web application experience
• Experience with backend languages like PHP or Python
• Experience with frontend JavaScript frameworks
• Ability to deliver testable, user-friendly features in a collaborative environment
• Experience building responsive or mobile-first web experiences
• Experience converting design mockups into functional components
• Experience building features with observability and testing in mind
• Experience incorporating performance and accessibility into features
• Experience writing well-documented and readable code

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in fully remote, internationally distributed teams
• Experience working with large, legacy codebases
• History of open source contributions
• Prior experience with MediaWiki or Wikimedia projects
• Familiarity with Wikipedia, wikitext, markdown, or CMS platforms
• Experience with data science, machine learning, or AI
• Experience with mobile application maintenance or cross-platform frameworks
• Strong aptitude in algorithms and data structures
