Staff Database Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design and evolve scalable, highly available database architectures for transactional and analytical systems
• Diagnose complex database performance issues involving schema design, indexing, and query optimization
• Own the reliability, scalability, and disaster recovery strategies for database systems
• Ensure compliance with data governance, security standards, and access control policies
• Lead architectural discussions, design reviews, and mentor engineers across the organization
• Develop automation for deployment, maintenance, and provisioning workflows

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in database engineering or data architecture
• Deep expertise with relational database systems such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Aurora, or SQL Server
• Strong proficiency in SQL and performance tuning
• Proven experience scaling high-throughput, mission-critical production systems
• Extensive experience with backup/recovery, HA/replication, and disaster recovery
• Strong scripting and automation experience with Python, Bash, or PowerShell
• Excellent communication and cross-team collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with distributed databases or cloud-native platforms like AWS RDS, DynamoDB, BigQuery, or Snowflake
• Familiarity with microservices architectures and event-driven systems
• Background in data modeling, data governance, or enterprise architecture
• Prior leadership in large-scale migrations or modernization initiatives
