About the Company

FirstPrinciples is a non-profit organization building an autonomous AI Physicist to understand the nature of reality. By combining AI, symbolic reasoning, and autonomous research capabilities, we are developing a platform that actively contributes to physics research to accelerate progress on the deepest unsolved problems in the universe.

Responsibilities

  • Review and critique model reasoning in quantum information and adjacent theory
  • Identify conceptual errors, missing assumptions, and invalid proof steps in model outputs
  • Provide clear corrections, alternative derivations, and gold-standard demonstrations for training
  • Translate domain judgment into actionable research recommendations for model behavior
  • Build and coordinate the Collaborators program of external expert peers
  • Contribute to open-science artifacts including benchmarks, datasets, and technical reports

Requirements

  • PhD in Physics, Quantum Information, Theoretical CS, or a closely related field
  • Postdoctoral-level research maturity
  • Deep fluency in quantum algorithms, error correction, and quantum information theory
  • Strong mathematical foundations in linear algebra, probability, and group theory
  • Scientific programming skills in Python, Git, and LaTeX
  • Familiarity with modern ML training workflows and expert feedback loops
  • Strong written communication skills for precise scientific critique

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience at the intersection of quantum computing and machine learning
  • Familiarity with preference modeling or reward modeling
  • Proficiency with PyTorch, JAX, Qiskit, PennyLane, or Cirq
  • Publication record in high-impact physics journals
