Staff Software Engineer - Agent Architecture

Responsibilities

• Own the architectural direction for agentic AI and build the agent platform used across applications
• Design, build, and ship production voice and chat agents that integrate with Ruby on Rails and partner services
• Define tool design, schemas, and idempotency to ensure agent quality and safety in money-moving contexts
• Manage the agent lifecycle including testing, offline/online evaluations, observability, and feedback loops
• Implement guardrails for security, including scope enforcement, PII protection, and PCI-compliant handling
• Optimize unit economics for agent interactions, including token budgets and model cascades
• Partner with Security, Compliance, and Legal to ensure agent behavior meets regulatory obligations
• Mentor engineering teams on building, evaluating, and operating agentic systems

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with Staff-level scope
• Proven experience shipping agentic AI systems to production at scale
• Hands-on experience with modern agent frameworks like LangGraph
• Deep experience with the full agent lifecycle: prompt design, evaluation, and observability
• Strong system design fundamentals in reliability, consistency, and data modeling
• Ability to work within or quickly ramp up in a Ruby on Rails and MySQL environment
• Strong communication skills for high-stakes cross-functional collaboration

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience shipping voice agents and working with telephony/STT/TTS pipelines
• Experience with platforms like ElevenLabs, Twilio, or Deepgram
• Background in payments, fintech, or other highly regulated industries
• Experience building evaluation infrastructure such as LLM-as-judge or regression suites
• Expertise in adversarial testing for LLMs, including prompt injection and jailbreaking
• Experience optimizing LLM unit economics through caching and model cascades
