Staff Software Engineer I

Careem is building the Everything App for the greater Middle East — making it easy to move around, order food and groceries, manage payments, and more. We operate in 70+ cities across 10 countries, from Morocco to Pakistan.

Responsibilities

• Lead internal engineering initiatives by designing and building scalable, secure, and maintainable systems
• Architect complex backend systems with a focus on performance and modularity using Golang
• Drive impact in Data & AI by applying machine learning and agentic AI innovation
• Shape roadmaps and drive technical decisions with a product-centric mindset
• Set the bar for code quality, system design, and operational excellence through hands-on execution
• Mentor engineers through pairing, code reviews, and design discussions
• Streamline workflows and reduce toil through CI/CD, observability, and automation
• Partner with infrastructure, product, and security teams to deliver aligned solutions

Requirements

• Proven experience building and scaling complex engineering systems or platforms in high-growth environments
• Deep expertise in Golang and modern backend platforms
• Strong experience in system architecture and design
• Ability to work as a hands-on individual contributor leader
• Experience with machine learning or AI application is highly valued
