TypeScript Backend Engineer

About the Company

In partnership with Sony and SBI, Startale is building the infrastructure to bring the world's assets on-chain through Strium, a next-generation DeFi L1, and the Startale App, a consumer super-app. Distributed across Tokyo, New York, and Singapore, we operate in English and build to a world-class standard.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of backend architecture and implementation across the Startale ecosystem
• Design, build, and maintain scalable production APIs and backend services
• Build and operate high-performance distributed systems capable of handling significant production traffic
• Develop data pipelines, background workers, and event-driven architectures
• Build and maintain blockchain integrations and indexing systems to process on-chain data
• Design efficient database schemas and optimize complex queries in PostgreSQL
• Integrate traditional Web2 backend systems with Web3 blockchain protocols
• Diagnose and solve complex production issues, performance bottlenecks, and scaling challenges
• Implement strong observability, monitoring, and alerting systems

Requirements

• Extensive experience building and operating production backend systems
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and frameworks like NestJS, Fastify, or Express
• Proven track record of operating systems serving large user bases under high traffic
• Deep expertise with PostgreSQL, including schema design and query optimization
• Experience integrating with blockchain infrastructure, node APIs, or smart contracts
• Understanding of wallet architecture, transaction lifecycles, and DeFi protocols
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, and fault tolerance

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building backend services in Go
• Experience with messaging systems like Kafka, NATS, or RabbitMQ
• Experience with blockchain indexing frameworks such as The Graph or Subsquid
• Experience deploying services using Docker and modern CI/CD pipelines
• Contributions to open-source backend or blockchain tooling projects
• Deep familiarity with the DeFi ecosystem (DEXs, lending protocols, staking, etc.)
