Writing Tutor

Responsibilities

• Provide thorough, insightful, and actionable written feedback on student essays and writing assignments
• Support students through asynchronous essay reviews following Upswing's tutoring philosophy
• Meet synchronously with students via a virtual classroom to assist with writing development
• Utilize the Socratic method to prioritize inquiry and higher-order concerns

Requirements

• 1+ year of college/university Writing Center tutoring and training experience
• 3.5 GPA or higher with a transcript demonstrating success in a writing-intensive program
• Familiarity with the Socratic method of tutoring
• Ability to review diverse writing topics including health sciences, history, and argumentative essays
• Access to a laptop/desktop computer and fast, reliable internet
• Proficiency with MS Word or Google Docs
• Ability to receive payments via PayPal
• Commitment to 15-25 hours per week during surge periods (February 1 - May 15)
